AMERICAN QUAKER BAND SAMPLER 1803 - The Scarlet Letter
Chart only $17.00
Stitch count: 90 x 245
This is a classic example of an American sampler that has
been strongly influenced by needlework design taught at Quaker
schools. Likely, it was not actually worked at one of the Quaker
schools that flourished from New York to Virginia, for over 200
years.
The linen is coarser than what the schools supplied, and the
workmanship somewhat crude. However, the Roman style alphabets
and partial floral/geometric medallions, definitely suggest Quaker
influence.
Stitches used are: cross, long-arm cross, eyelet and Queen.
Recommended for any skill level.
