“The design of this piece was inspired by fine examples
of early eighteenth century American and English needlework pictures.
A picture like this would have been stitched as a painting, with
great attention to detail, shading, colour and composition.
While the individual elements are out of scale, (the draft horse,
the rider’s elongated arm, the attenuated bodies of the animals,
their relative size and position) the overall effect is harmonious
and idyllic”.
The needlework can be stitched over one or two threads of linen.
Worked entirely in cross-stitch.
