“Angel Pavement has been inspired by many of the traditional Scandinavian Samplers which became established during the second half of the 18th Century.

Typically they included a central focus point which could be a religious or pastoral scene. In some more secular examples, the embroiderer might prefer to include a depiction of her home.

Images of Angels also featured frequently, some in flight holding trumpets while others were hidden within floral borders.
