Renaissance has been inspired by traditional Western European samplers. Among the many symbols and motifs featured in the design are the typical "fully clothed" Adam and Eve favoured by early Dutch Presbyterians, the German double-headed Eagle, the Pelican "in her piety" which signifies death and resurrection, Lions which in Holland represented strength and steadfastness, the Cockerel which stood for watchfulness and penitence, and the "Spies of Canaan" which alludes to Joshua and Caleb who were sent by Moses into Canaan for the purposes of espionage.
Along with your initials and the year of completion there is also a space to stitch the individual number of your chart. We suggest you photocopy the chart for working purposes and keep the original in pristine condition. In this way it is hoped that the finished work and the original chart will create a provenance which will truly make Renaissance an heirloom for future generations.
