Linen and Threads

Antique Sampler reproduction for cross stitch. Available as a chart only or kit.

Marie Ginneston’s sampler reproduced by Sovereign Samplers has a stitch count of 323w x 323h. The approximate finished measurements are 51.5 x 51.5cms (20 1/4 “x 20 ¼ “) on 32 count linen.

The original sampler and model were worked on 32 count linen. Our model has been worked on Weeks Dye Works Linen, colour ‘Linen’ using DMC stranded cotton. The sampler has been worked in cross stitch, using one strand of thread over two threads of linen.

Only a little is known about Marie Ginneston. It is believed that she was born in Laguiole, Averyron, Midi-Pyrenees on 18 May 1873, married Francois Fontanier and had 4 children. Averyron is in the southern part of France, beautiful and picturesque, Laguiole is famous for its cheese and the birthplace of the Laguiole knife.

We hope you enjoy stitching this sampler and hope that you will join The Crewel Gobelin SAL, commencing October 2020 aiming for a October 2021 finish!
