This distinctive style of decorative needlework panels was brought to the Island of Amager (which lies just outside the city of Copenhagen in Denmark) by Dutch settlers from the Island of Marken many centuries ago which explains the evident similarities between the two genres.
While Amager samplers cannot be said to hold deep, dark secrets cached within their stitches they do have many little hidden delights for the stitcher to discover and enjoy.
